Notes from Growler – 05/18/13

A: Pure golden amber body with fine clarity. Thick soapy off-white head with some ample stay power and plenty of sudsy stick along the way down the drink.

S: Smells pleasantly hoppy. Flowery with some pine and sweet citrus action. There is a touch of something tropical mixed in that I can’t quite label. Has a sort of lemony twist on it. Faint pale malt and sweet caramel undercurrents. Pretty righteous hop aromas though.

T: Taste is very fruity with some citrus fruit and tropical flare. Definitely a mix of new age hops coming through. Firm with pine notes that turn a bit lemony towards the end. There is a soft crackery malt base with a dash of caramel sweetness and some crisp rye spice. The beer has a big peppering bitterness on the palate and no alcohol flavors detectable. The hops are fresh and flavorful and are quite the highlight of the beer.

M: Lighter body with a nice creamy consistency and drying finish. There is a bit of scrubbing hop bitterness and some resinous after affects.

D: My guess is the same malt base as Tube Rye-der Sessions only with a different hop mix going on. I must say I enjoyed this one much more. Hard to even pin down the hops used; possibly Mosaic or Simcoe, Citra, and Nelson? But definitely a combo of sorts with maybe even some Falconer’s or Sorachi Ace in there to explain the lemony flavors. Either way this is a delicious session brew that I hope to see again.
