March 27th, 2015 - The Vanilla version of Rip Current's Rescue Buoy is the closest thing to a rum and coke I've ever had in a beer. It smells like a mixture of Vanilla Coke (RIP), rum and spiced rum, and it even tastes like rum. The mid-taste strips away some of the rum's sweeter element with a slight touch of oak and alcohol booziness and a shorter aftertaste. All served on a softer palate, it's a wild ride, and a curious brew.

Bottle (2013)
Thanks for opening this with me, Tim!
Black throughout with a small to moderate head of light, somewhat airy brown bubbles. Nicely sticky down the glass.
Well balanced aroma of roasted malts, a touch of char, and complementary sweet and earth vanilla. The vanilla is present but not overpowering, as the base beer is still allowed to shine through nicely. Very nice, and probably my favorite aspect of the beer.
The flavor is similar to the aroma, though there seems to be something lacking, at least after smelling. The flavors don't seem perfectly blended together, though what's here is still quite nice. Roasted, dark malts, a touch of chocolate and char, and sweet, earthy vanilla. Very drinkable, as no booze can be detected.
Medium to near full in body.
Very nice offering from a great new brewery.
