Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of cacoa with a slight, sweet and sour raspberry note and a hint of roasted malt coming through as well. The raspberry, which is a little understated in the nose, comes out a lot more in the taste, with a nice balance of sweetness and sourness and being complemented by notes of roasted malt, cacoa, coffee, and just a very faint hint of vanilla. Finishes with a very mild bitterness and mild raspberry sourness. Smooth, rich mouthfeel with a medium body and low carbonation.
This is not going to be for everybody because of that sour raspberry note, but I think it's actually quite well-balanced. It's just a bit ofa shame that the vanilla is not coming out that much, as I think that a slightly higher presence would have complented the overall balance quite nicely. Still a great stout if you can appreciate that slightly sour fruit note.
