Today is Coronation Day, and what a wonderful event and spectacle that has been.
Blind-tasted, ie I haven't looked at the labelling since I listed it 2+ weeks ago and remember zero re: ABV%/style/etc.
L- Very deep amber, clear, pours with a 3-4mm ultra-fine bubble cream coloured head which holds incredibly well. ps. The head is incredible, it looks great and it holds 'forever', forming heavy lacing on the way down.
S- I struggled to get anything from this. Eventually just an indistinct touch of dryness that could be hops or CO2. Maybe serving in a 1/2-filled goblet that could be swirled might get more from it... p.s. very unusual for me to smell SO little from a beer.
T- Hoppy dryness that sustains. I briefly thought I got a hint of mild lemon [?] that quickly left as soon as I was considering it. It's quite dry and the dryness lingers after swallowing.
F- It's dry and quenches a thirst. It would suit a picnic on a hot sunny day - which today certainly wasn't! There are balancing malts which bring some richness, body+feel.
O- I like it, even though it's not my usual kind of thing. It's mostly trad at core but with a brief nod to current times. The hops vs malts balance is done very well. I'm guessing about... 4.5% and IPA with some contemporary hops. Nice beer, the absence of small (for me!) is a minor detail considering the whole.
----------------------------- Rated/reviewed, now to read the bottle...
660ml bottle £3 BBE: 03/2024. Golden Ale I see, ok, so close to an IPA. Sovereign hops feature here. And that's it - God save the King, cheers!
