Draft pour in a stemmed tulip glass.
Appearance: Deeply stained maple. Hazy and nearly opaque. Persistent head that laces the sides of the glass.
Smell: When my wife makes chile verde, I take a couple pounds of Anaheim peppers and roast them on the barbecue. When they get hot enough, they pop. This beer smells like that pop.
Taste: Take a mouthful of blistering, smoky chilies, and then wash them down with a mouthful of pennies. Tastes like that.
Mouthfeel: Hot and bubbly.
Overall: Fruit, vegetable, and spice beers should be about finding a balance between the base beer and the highlighted ingredient. Chili beers, however, seem to want immunity to that guideline. This one is no different. It’s a cloudy pale ale that has been overthrown by peppers. Just not my thing.
