Bought In Lincoln at The Wig and Mitre "offy" during an Easter break. Nice City and cathedral.

Hazy amber. Tight head which quickly clears leaving a smear of beige bubbles.

Caramel and hops aroma.

Initial hit of caramel followed by stewed green veg' and ending with signs of oxidation.

Smooth mouthful - probably the bottle conditioning. The alcohol is noticeable.

I bit too much for my empty stomach.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2013, so it's just out of date. Purchased a while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label mentions that this brew possesses a flavour of candied orange peel.

Poured into a straight pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy coppery-amber hue with fine sediment and very low carbonation. Almost no head; a thin film of white foam that disappears almost immediately. Doesn't look too good - a factor that never bodes well. Aroma of acidic fruity malt with hints of caramel, grain, mild brown sugar, grass/hay, faint floral hops and earthy yeast. Distinct vinegary overtones - flawed.

Tastes of slightly soured caramel malt with a fruity character and a dry finish. Notes of fruity malt, caramel, dried fruit, mild brown sugar, subtle vinegar, grass/hay, stewed hops and earthy yeast. Well-attenuated but acidic, with a lingering yeastiness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth but flat and textureless. Body could be thicker/creamier given the strength. Somewhat astringent, followed by an aftertaste of fruity malt, earthy yeast and a vague sourness.

Hmmm - not too impressed by this. Is it infected or partially oxidised? Doesn't look terribly good, and the aroma and flavour aren't brilliant either. Fruity malt but the flavours are lifeless, yeasty and acidic. None of the peel mentioned on the label. Poor body - flat and dull. No great shakes; this has potential but fails to shine. Did I just get a bad bottle? At any rate, caveat emptor if you choose to buy.
