Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is cherries, prunes and some caramel malt. The flavor is not as nice as the aroma. I get some toffee and cherries, but I also get some tobacco and leather notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Decent, nothing special.

Found on the huge beer list (under Winter brews) at Cafe Botteltje, Ostend.
Well out of date (the label went up to 2005, but wasn't marked). It was also 6.2% not 7% as stated above. This obviously doesn't age well, read on.
A murky sludge slurped out the bottle, with an off white, scummy looking small head. An incredible aroma of farmyard manure came with the beer. This was one bad, old, nasty brew. A lesser man would have given up, but I soldiered on and drank the lumpy mix, just to annoy my wife. The sediment stuck to my teeth and I had to ask for a 'tandenstoker' (toothpick) from the staff. I should have asked for a sweaty sock to drink it through I suppose, that way the bits wouldn't have gotten into my mouth!
Needless to say, I didn't have two and unless I see someone else pour a fresh one, I never will.

Served in a « Chalice »
When I tried to pour this beer, it gave an enormous head. At first the bubbles were huge, but after the head settled, it became more compact and creamy. The colour is a very dark brown chocolate.
The scent is special, but nevertheless very pleasant. Overall it’s sweet and bitter, containing chocolate, nuts, figs, coffee and a general fruitlike scent.
Taste is, though metallic, very agreeable with my taste buds. It’s sweet and dry. The main components are nuts, figs, and a slight burnt coffee element.
During the aftertaste, the burn coffee sensation gets stronger and is combined with yeast. They linger on.
The mouthfeel is dry, with the taste of burn coffee in the back of the mouth.
This beer is very drinkable, it goes down very easy. Which is not automatically true for this type of brew.
I will join the other reviewers, this is an excellent discovery.

No freshnesdate carved and printed on label 14-05-05 but dunno if it is productiondate and BB 3 years afterwards. Anyway poors out with a dark brown beercollor and lots of head. Beer has a lot of white haze on it that's not very appealing to me. Nose is caramellic, litle sourish, figgo's, dms and some roastcoffe. Taste is quiet sour, carbonated, dry, champagne like and in aftertaste figgo's come up together with low dosed bitterness. Strange taste for sure and get new arome's the more I drink and have to say that enjoyment grows with the amount drunk. Still hard to get through and mouthfeel is edgy to me mostly sour and dry and missing fullness as it feels thin to me. Drinkability is much better then looks but is just hard to me to get trough this taste. Certainly something else.

Even carefully poured, the head on this one wants to rise right up out of the glass. Once settled, however, the densely creamy tan head rests majestically over a deep mahogany body with orange and ruby highlights at the base of the glass. The head holds extremely well, maintaining an inch and a half of froth throughout most of the glass, and leaves full walls of sticky, creamy lace about the goblet. The nose displays clear dark fruit (figs, obviously) over a lightly sweet malt. It's not complex, but it is inviting! The body is light/medium, and its very fine carbonation warms to become pillowy soft and smooth across the palate (giving it the impression of a fuller body). There's more malt in the flavor than the nose suggests, although the fig flavors remain quite clearly. The fruitiness isn't "juicy", but it's surprisingly rich. It starts with the fruit upfront, but reveals some more of it's sweet, caramelish malt across the middle. Some light tartness seems to linger in the background but never really makes it's way through the maltiness. It's sweet but not sugary, and it finishes surprisingly dry considering that the bitterness is barely enough to balance it. Some spicy alcohol helps, and once the fruit and malt have passed in the aftertaste some lightly astringent "dark fruit skin" character appears. Again, it's not really complex considering that it has figs added to it, but it's very mesmerizing. A charming and exciting ale that shouldn't be missed!
