Got this one at the Duvel guy down the road
From a bottle into a snifter
bb4 2040
APPEARANCE: Pours a 1+ finger, looser, foamy, light brown head with good retention. Dark maroon brown, opaque with no real carbonation. Fades to a full wisp. A splotchy wisp remains until the end but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Toffee, dark fruit, raisins, grapes and light spicy notes on the nose. Medium strength.
TASTE: Kind of empty up front. Hints of toffee maybe. Milder finish of toffee, light spicy notes and some dark fruits. Light floral bitterness lingers as well. Rather lifeless and bland overall.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Light and creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry. A bit of heat lingers.
OVERALL: Nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's definitely bland and lifeless. Not sure what went wrong here, but it's really, really mild in flavor and the thinner body doesn't help either. Rather disappointing for such a big and hefty brew. Pass on this.
