July 22nd, 2015 - I'm always down for a good wheat ale, as long as it has more of that cracked wheat flavor, and an absence of off flavors. The Monterey Bay Wheat alle is a nice looking brew with a chill haze on the glass gives off a nice appetizing aura. Light and sweet on the aroma. it's a bit too sweet and almost like a shandy, with heavy lemonade taste. Light bodied and with a slight corn aftertaste, I don't think this is the wheat ale I'm looking for.

I found this on tap in Monterey.
Gold, it had no head, only an exceedingly thin white ring that soon disappeared.
Aroma is mid and simple, but firm and very pleasant - grain, apple, and rather like a solid pale lager/basic wheat beer.
Taste is better, a nice full grain, apple character with a hint of grass and a long cracker finish. It's simple but enjoyable, crisp yet with firm flavour. It is lightly on the sweet side. Overall, it is a good, solid, if fairly basic wheat beer. I think it should be classed more properly as an American wheat rather than kristalweizen, but of course the lines can be blurry.

On the side of the bottle "American Clear Wheat beer brewed with 50% malted wheat beer, resulting in a creamy, mild, delicately flavored beer."
Clear wheat beer that has been filtered, I will call it a Kristalweizen.
A clear orange colored beer without much head formation.
Smell is light and fruity. A little bit of caramel candy scent and a larger orange aroma. Lastly a bit of toasted bread and a trace of vanilla.
Starts out malty with a good toasted grain flavor. Big grain flavor and more sweetness than you would expect. Not a lot of complexity here, just lots of toasted grain flavor. Hops are present only as a slight bitterness in the finish of the beer.
Mouthfeel is good.
Drinkability is OK. A nice mildly flavored beer that is easy enough to drink but lacks in complexity.
