Pours a thin head on a clear light straw colored body.
The aroma is lemon.
The taste has a nice tartness to it. Some lemon bitterness.
The texture is crisp.

This is a light, simple, but tasty pale ale.

Pale gold, more pale than Big Sur by the same brewer, it has a small white head steadily shrinking to a foamy ring, lots of wisps.

Aroma is mild fruity grain.

Taste is light grassy and minty-lemony bitterness with light blueberry character, grain.

 

Golden color in the elegant nonic pint glass. Very nice head that lasts well, with lacing making for a nice appearance. Grainy aroma with a hint of fruit.

Tastes like a regular lager at first sip, but the flavors gradually reveal themselves. Pleasant carbonation and a light mouthfeel. A touch of woodiness and lemon on the tongue. Fairly hoppy, like a lightened-up Pilsener. Rather crisp with a bitter twang that lasts into the aftertaste. Mild biscuit taste with some green vegetable. Thoroughly drinkable and makes an excellent chilled pint.

On tap at Asilomar in Pacific Grove in the lodge cafe. They generally have three English Ales brews, and it's a great spot to enjoy the fireplace inside or the sunset from the big decks overlooking the forest and sea.

poured from a 12oz into a Belikin schooner.

see-through golden yellow-orange tone. flea size bubbles climb to the surface of thinly lace head. the head spreads to the side and sticks nicely to the glass.

smells like nice pale, golden malt and scarce hop.

more bitterness in the taste coming more from the malt it seems. a slight metallic aftertaste.

meh, someone gifted it to me. I think the stronger beers are ruining me for these lighter, pub styles.

*** I do notice BA says this is no longer brewed, and it seems the last review was in 06. Did I get a vintage bottle? hmmmm?

A: Has a really light orange color with little head that diminished quickly.
S: Interestingly it had a deep hoppy smell that was very much like a bouquet of flowers with some light sweet vanilla scents mixing in there.
T: Tasted of citrus spices with a raisin after taste and plenty of hops in the brew.
M/D: Has a bitter mouth feel that dries it out quickly so it is not the best for drinking on a hot day or to quench a thirst but all in all a great session beer that has amazing taste and smells and I really want this one again.

It was served a straw-gold edge given to lightness in color. There was little to no head. A little white lace was visible.
It smells of deep hops and I noticed a citrus tone as well. It was interesting but nothing out of the ordinary.
Every part of the mouth is hit in the taste. I found it to be very well balanced. The hops are definitely present and balance out the very english style malt content. It had a pleasantly sweet and bitter aftertaste.
I thought the texture was great and the carbonation was perfect. It coats and lingers very well. It was great for the style.
I found this beer to be very drinkable and I picked up some before I left the brewpub. It pulls a variety of flavors without overwhelming the palate.

Off white color (think Hoogarden white with a splash of orange). Solid 1/4 inch filmy head with retention. This brew is very focused. Light citrus smell. Grapefruit with a splash of lemon/lime. I couldn't pick it up in the smell but there is a malted caramel backdrop that balances perfectly. This is an easy easy drinking brew. Mouthfeel is almost perfect as it slides around with a twinge of citrus to cleanse. God Damn IT! Is this brewery for real?. Only two offerings from this brewery I've been able to get my hands on, but so far so good.

Presentation: 12 fluid ounce bottle which has simple brass colored crown cap. Single main label wraps around 2/3rds of the bottles body. Labeled as ‘English Ales Pale Ale’ with a picture of a stern looking Knight in Shining Armour leaning on his Sword. Stated strength is 6.0% A.B.V.

Appearance: Lovely clear golden body which has a soft off-white head atop from the get-go. Resplendent looks from the Pint Glass project a good image for this Pale Ale. Head eventually lowers to a thin 1/8” covering which nevertheless always remains unbroken.

Nose: Has a very fresh appealing collection of grapefruit and lightly toasted pilsner malt aromas. Several deep inhalations help to confirm that this has an Earthy organic character also.

Taste: Extremely crisp, clean and unfettered. A simple assembly of soil encrusted hops, toasted malts, lager like freshness, mild grapefruit sharpness, and a nice fresh spicy bitterness in the dry ending. Enough life on the tongue after the swallow to leave you wanting more.

Mouthfeel: As with the Monk’s Brown Ale, the Pale Ale benefits from a good level of conditioning which is a mixture of soft dissolved carbonation and a lively stimulating effervescent escaping CO2. The Pale Ale benefits from a solid body and a supporting firm mouthfeel. Smooth.

Drinkability: Oooooh yes, this was a great quaffer. I’m surprised that this one weighs in at 6%, a little above most UK Pale Ales, but it definitely does not hold this one back from being a great Session brew! Would suit the Cask well I feel.

Overall: Feels like “Teutonic Lager meets English Pale Ale”, and it works, extremely well I may add. I’d go for a Six-Pack of this, even at $8.99.

“The Grail of Pale”

Appearance: Light golden body with a decent head but little lacing

Smell: Bold, bitter grapefruit and floral tones

Taste: Crisp, sweet and citrusy with pink grapefruit being the most pronounced flavor characteristic; nicely balanced and hoppy

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a nice level of carbonation

Drinkability: A very distinctive pale ale with a flavor profile unlike any other I have tasted; the brewmaster told me that comes from using lager malt and hops but ale yeasts

Had this at a new pub that opened about 30 minutes from us. it arrived at my table in a proper English pint glass! Color was a lager like gold, thin head and wispy lace. Strong aroma of malt, little hop aroma. Very smooth honey like maltiness, slightly bitter as befits an English style ale. Full mouthfeel and nice and drinkable. Was I just in London? Good beer.
