Poured into a snifter. Aged in Cedar Ridge bourbon barrel, bottle no. 281. 8.5% on this year's release.
3.25 A: Deep mahogany brown color. One finger of frothy tan head. Retention is below average and a lone wisp of lacing is left.
4.0 S: Interesting, this is pretty mellow. After a year in the barrel, I would think it would pick up more bourbon. Anyway, the base beer and the barrel get along swimmingly as they complement each other so well. Subtly complex with a caramel and toffee malt backbone. A touch of leather with stronger melon and currant. Raisin, plum, vanilla, and woodiness.
4.0 T: Like the nose, this isn't powerful, but it's super smooth and complex. Maltiness with strength of caramel and toffee. Complex fruits with raisin, plum, melon, currant, and perhaps some fig and date. Mild leather, well hidden booze, vanilla, and oak.
4.5 M: Medium body. Lower level carbonation, but well within range and actually it works pretty well. Supremely smooth and pleasantly creamy.
4.0 D: Really nice beer. Tons of complexity and so very easy to drink.
