Bomber into a snifter. This is "Brrr Fest Barrel Aged Winterfest Ale." 7.0%, bottle no. 214.
3.5 A: Clear deep mahogany color. A little over one finger of frothy beige head. Retention is below average, but a decent amount of irregular lacing is left.
3.5 S: A lot of barrel in the nose, but it's mainly because the base beer allows it instead of competing with it. It's fruity and tangy with a mix of light and dark fruits including peach, currants, raisins, and plum. Pleasant vanilla and woodiness. The advertised spices of clove, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg are surprisingly and unfortunately very mild. And what's worse is that this is really lacking in the malt department. I like my winter warmer type beers to be rich and complex, but this gets dominated by the barrel.
3.5 T: Like the nose it has good complexity, but again lacking strength in the base malts. Tangy fruitiness with the above fruits. The spices get lost within the tanginess and perhaps contribute to it. Woody vanilla barrel. Caramel and molasses. I want malty instead of tangy. Still it's not bad.
2.75 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking creaminess and too light of body.
3.0 D: This sounds great on paper but the execution is lacking.

L (4.25) - Not sure what I was epxecting, but it is a darker color. Almost like Pepsi. A little bit of head, but not a lot.
S (4) - There's a little bit of the spice/sweet aroma. Not much hop and not much roasty/coffee aroma.
T (4.5) - I had in my mind I wouldn't like this beer, but the first word I thought of was "complex." It's not very sweet, not all that 'spicy.' A little bit of that, a little bit of that earthy malt flavor. And a little bit of alchol. Kinda one of those 'greater than the sum of its parts' type of sensations.
F (4.25) - Easy to drink, with a little alcohol finish.
O (4.25) - Like I said earlier, I didn't think I'd like it. I was expecting this bathroom potpourri tasting beer. But it was really good. I would certainly buy this again!
