When it came to creating a unique take on a IPA, one country's hops wasn't going to cut it. German hops for a smooth bitterness and American hops for perfect aroma, and the result - a "GPA" that would make any IPA want to change its name.

Poured a clear shade of light amber with a thin white head, minor lacing.
The smell was dominated by spicy and grassy noble type hops.
The flavor was clean with light bitter juniper and grassy hops dominating the flavor. No malt flavor to speak of and no noticeable american hop flavors present either.
The mouthfeel was light with mild carbonation.
Overall the emphasis on the German Hops makes this taste like a hoppy German pils. Seems like this beer would make more sense to drop off the small amounts of caramel and just make a good pils instead of a poor American Pale Ale. They actually have it listed on their menu boards as IPA and if you want to grade it as that it really fails.

Poured from a growler into a pint glass.
A: Nice honey color. Slightly cloudy. Two finger off-white head with decent retention. Not much carbonation evident.
S: Mostly citrus (grapefruit), some malt sweetness. Very pleasant.
T: Grapefruit, trace of pine. Well balanced with malt sweetness. Finish is dry at first, but then sweetness re-emerges. Faint mineral notes.
M: Fairly smooth and creamy. Although the carbonation is not very visible, it's still there in the mouth.
O: Very pleasant, could drink this all night. A winner.
Have had this a couple of times in the past-- we usually make our way up to McGregor once or twice a year. This is better than I remember it. Was great on tap a few days ago, which is why we brought the growler back with us. Definitely something to look forward to on our next visit to Northeast Iowa.

O: Very pleasant, could drink this all night. A winner.

A new beer named in coordination with their rebranding to Back Pocket Brewing.
A: Razor thin head, like many of the beers here, which may be a function of service rather than brewing, but at a brew pub, that's part of everything. Hazy gold body, and fairly dark. The brewer informs me they intentionally don't filter. The head leaves a nice lacing. 4.0
S: Sort of sweet and fruity. The hops are a nice blend of German and American flavors. 3.5
T: Really nice taste, sharper hops than in the aroma. It's hoppy, but not bitter. Still a little fruity, I can't tell if I like that or not. 4
M: This beer could use a little more body, but the hops don't cut too much, so that's good. 4.
