Served on-tap at Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville, NC
A: Pours a clear but opaque jet black in color with moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the surface + edges of the glass and some cola brown highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall beige foamy head that reduces fairly quickly to a small to medium sized patch of thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Slightly more than moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of roasted coffee and roasted malts with lighter aromas of spicy saison yeast.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted malts with slightly stronger flavors of smooth roasted coffee. There are light to moderate aromas of spicy saison yeast and light amounts of lingering bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of dryness are present.
O: I really thought this was a nice and interesting beer - a coffee saison is not a style that you come across regularly but after having this one, I think I would like to see a few more of them. Nice additions of coffee to the more traditional saison elements and well hidden alcohol.
