The nose features a very Flemish-style malt profile. I get brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, and caramel. I don't get the tart cherry of a Flemish red, or even much rye, but the Belgian influence still brings touches of black pepper, biscuit, and white grape. It's complex in a subtle, delicate fashion. I first taste notes of cherry (unlike what the aroma suggested), caramel, and even a little smoke. It finishes with some yeasty bread and black pepper. I really enjoy the subtle dark cherries I pick up, and also enjoy the lively finish. It's every bit as effervescent and dry as it should be. I'd swear up and down a Belgian brewer made it, and that's a high compliment.
