L:. Pours a clear dark purple red color with a small white head that leaves spotty lacing on the glass.
S:. Marion berries up front, very jammy, and notes of toasted bread. Reminds me of a freshly made jam.
T:. Marion berries, fresh made jam, a touch of toasted bread. Quite a bit of fruit but very nice.
F:. Medium jammy body
O:. Solid fruit sour.

A - Superb dark ruby, mahogany body, translucent, with a very short off white head, and a smidgen of lacing.
S - Fruit, suggesting cranberry, with yogurty acidity, a hint of wood, and a bit of funk.
T - Front of oak, quickly overtaken by sweet and bright berry, that turns in the middle to tart berry and sharp yogurt, with a fine acidic close.
M - Brisk with carbonation, with a definite presence on the tongue that dissipates into a dry close.
O - A fine, fine sour, with lovely berry and lactic acid, and a strong wood core.

"The childhood farm of our brewers is the source of their love of all things cultivated from soil, sweat, and hard-earned know-how. Their grandfather was a purveyor of preserves and jams made from berries and fruits that he harvested with his own hands. From this early inspiration the seed of our craft took root and grew into a philosophy of creating beer with integrity from berry to barrel to bottle. Ferme de Grand-pere is a foeder-aged, brettanomyces farmhouse ale. This tart, deep amber ale was rested on over a pound per gallon of marionberries and bottle conditioned in our cellar to reflect and echo the rustic farm style beers of old." Brewed in the style of a Farmhouse Ale Sour, fermented with marionberries. Available in 500ml. bottles and on limited draft.
Poured from a 500ml. bottle to a tulip glass.
(Appearance) Pours a toasted caramel cream head of a frothy foam consistency over a ruby-amber body with mild haziness and assertive, lively carbonation. Retention is very good and lacing is light and moderate. 4.25
(Smell) Rich, caramel bread body with candied sugars, thick berry puree and a soft, spicy effervescence from the impact of farmhouse yeast. Little perceived "tartness", aroma is very rich, however. Potency is moderate. 3.75
(Taste) A drying malt body of bread caramel body and light fruit syrups. The inclusion of marionberries creates a tangy, acidic and bitter impact that plays well with the "tart" aspect of this beer, which is more subtle without the berry. Finishes slick and moderately dry with a lingering bread crust finish. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly syrupy, tangy, very dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a mild frothiness and a medium crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Balance is nearly even tart and tangy to sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) This farmhouse tart ale has quite a different malt build from the last several I have had from this brewery, with a significantly richer specialty malt build really making it stand out. The use of Marionberry creates a significant impact on the flavor of this beer, building a tangy, acidic and bitter degree of flavor, contributing nicely to the tart qualities of this beer. I found it noticeably dried out and would have liked for some more sweetness and more souring character to pair nicely with the marionberry. Overall, it's very enjoyable, and a great fruited beer. 3.75

Deep plummy ruby color beneath a soft off-white head of tight-bubbled soapy cream. Smell has a spicy barrel edge to it with earthy berries, must, and tannins. Flavor has more berry fruitiness, though it stays fairly mellow and never gets too sweet. Mixed berries, damp wood funk, lemon acidity, and oaky wine. Smooth medium body, sour, and dry. Good fruity wild ale.
