Bramble Barrel is an American Barrel-Aged Sour Ale inspired by the Gin Bramble cocktail. This elegant sour is brewed with a pound and a half per gallon of fresh blackberries, then aged in gin barrels for botanical complexity. Finished with fresh lemon zest, this delight is best served un-shaken and un-stirred.

Opalescent copper/amber (SRM9-12). A shallow, brief, white-grey foam leaves spotty lace on a PBGC Imperial 2 Snifter. Warmth clears out the appearance.
A ton of wild yeast fills the aroma. A combination of gin and lemon is quite present with a subtle blackberry following. Overall, the aroma is very fruity and very sour. Warmth produces fruity esters.
The flavor and aroma are similar, with massive tartness dominating over the fruit and gin. Sweetness makes a valiant attempt, only to be repelled. The finish is long and tart, with more lemon. Warmth subdues the tartness and releases oak in abundance.
A soft, round texture and medium body are lifted by ample carbonation. Alcohol is as expected, while there are also slight metallic notes, perhaps from the tartness.
This is a fun beer for a snowy, white, winter afternoon. I enjoyed it while reading, with a harp playing in the background. My only wish is that the gin were a bit stronger.
