this one doesnt actually say blend 4 on the label, but the art matches what it looks like the blend 4 has on it, a generous bring back by my buddy who was out at the brewery recently, i have not seen wicked weed stuff in this green glass before, love that they are embracing some of this spontaneous stuff, makes sense for a brewery who has always been a pack leader in sour and funky ferments. i was surprised by this on a number of levels, the body for one, its super full, wheaty and even thick in a style space where more delicate beers often show up, some cool terroir to the pale malt, a rawness as well, i dont mind the heft because its dry, and it gives the yeasts more to do, but it definitely is a somewhat defining element of this, and unlike most others, pale colored as it still is, a little murky but also a pretty yellow tone, soft and inviting looking, and with vigorous carbonation and head. this really is all about the ferment of course, and its stunning, esters of pear and spring white wine, but then also pretty significant acidity, very mature, but not as woody as most, another surprising element here. tangy, lemony, lots of wet animal, basement must, burlap, straw and hay, really pastoral and interesting and rustic, a little less familiar than many, which is what i want from something fully spontaneous like this, and the green glass imparts a cool weirdness to the whole thing, a flattering and mild oxidation. great carbonation, enough to push through all the body, dry at the end, even bright on the palate for it being fuller. i love the balance, the reserved acidity, and the overall uniqueness of this. i know they do some fruited variants of these, which i am interested in, but it was really cool to be introduced to the range with an unfruited edition. delicious stuff, gorgeous packaging, nicely refined. wicked weed still has it!
