The Freak of Nature is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of the big West Coast hops gives this beer its citrusy, weedy nose and big, dank flavor. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch, which is over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In keeping with the classic style of the West Coast double, sugar plays a large part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter, we welcome you to the Freak Show.

500 ml Bottle
Date Bottled: 03.21.17

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice clean/clear orangy color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, with some nice citrus, with some pineyness. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, nice little citrus note, some pineyness. Medium body, ABV hidden fairly well, too spicey/hot. Overall, a tasty brew.

Draft at Wicked Weed. Poured a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy lacing. It smelled of orange, pineapple, grapefruit, guava and caramel. Sweet tropical fruit taste with toasted caramel and a sharp, piney bitterness.

It’s a fairly good imperial ipa. very smooth. Classic west coast ipa taste. Smoother, than most in its class. But there is something hollow in the mouthfeel. As far as taste goes, there are plenty that are tastier.Still, nothing crazy good/bad about this one. I love the Perni-hazy. It separates itself from others. This one…does not.

12oz can poured into pint glass.

Yellow/ orange color, fairly opaque with a nice amount of frothy foam head that stuck around. Retained its lacing throughout. (look 4.25)

Citrus scent with a large amount of bready malts and dank hops. (smell 4.00)

It is refreshing and flavorful while still being without being overly hoppy. (taste 4.25)

Goes down extremely smooth, with a little bite midway and through the finish. At around the halfway mark, the tingle on the finish lasted a bit longer. (feel 4.75)

Overall a very good double IPA. I find myself downing this quite fast despite its 8% abv. It actually got even better as I drank it. Expertly crafted from the team over at Wicked Weed. (overall 4.50)

On tap. Clear amber color with some white lacing. Dank piney hop aroma. Medium body with a sticky feel. Pine resin with a malty base. Classic West Coast IPA.

So boring and one dimensional. Not that it’s bad, but nothing interesting is going on. Just a straight up, very hoppy, west coast IPA like a hundred others. It’s pretty potent, and I got a 19.2 oz. can, so it’s doing its job of giving me a buzz, but not much else.

This is the definition of a west coast style imperial ipa. It pours a clear burnt orange color with a tight foam lacing. The nose is of blueberry bread. The taste is a perfect balance of hoppy brightness and malty sweetness with hints of caramel and pine. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Nicely done by WWB.

Drinking EXCELLENT at a little less than 5 months out. The can dating says sell within 3 months which is cute. DIPAs hold up well through 6 months at least, but I appreciate the thought by WW. Onto the beer...

Gentle pour gives a robust head. Pour slowly and appreciatively. Nose is candied malts with citrus and piney hops, and the taste follows right along. Sweet candied malt, caramel, both in PERFECT balance with dank citrusy piney hops. Very easy drinking with a soft pillowy feel. Even though there is sweetness here, I wouldn't describe this beer as sweet.
Wonderfully old school in all the right ways. A hazy head may even find joy here. Outstanding DIPA
