I am not kidding about the name. Right there in the brewpub, on the wall. They call it a Belgian Amber. Not much of a head on the pint shaker. Slightly hazy dark amber in color. Warm toned and malty.
Mellow sweetness at first, then the surprising bitterness followed by a dry yeasty bite. There is an odd flavor that seems a bit plasticky and murky. It starts out to be a pleasant malty Belgian sort of style, but gets waylaid by the bitter graininess. I'm glad to see the variety of Belgian-influenced brews from Thorn Street, but this one is expendable.
