The brewery lists this as an "American Wit", I'm not sure what that is. This review is probably not going to reflect what I think about this beer, because, without knowing what the brewery is aiming for here, I have to judge it against standard examples.
Served in straight pint glass. Poured a lightly hazy gold amber color with 3/4 inch of just off-white head that had very good retention and medium lacing. The aroma was mostly malts, none of the coriander and orange the breweries website http://www.islandhoppinbrewery.com/beer/ claimed were apparent.
Same on the tastebuds, nice grains, some yeasty spice, but none of the traditional Wit aspects. The body was nicely full and smooth, it coated the tongue nicely and, while not dry, wasn't sticky or sweet either.
Drinkability was very good, I will certainly have more of these. Overall, a pretty nice brew, worth a shot if you see it. Which is probably gonna be a long shot, unless you visit Orcas Island, which you will need a boat or airplane to do. And you should visit Orcas, the San Juan Islands are stunningly beautiful. Anywhooo, if I had tried this beer blind, I would have said that it was an interesting take on the Amber style, and given it a much higher score.
