12oz can poured into a tulip.
Pours amber/copper with ruby hues; fluffy light khaki head that fades leaving decent bubbly retention and lacing. Nice color.
The aromas have your typical "Christmas spice profile" going on. Cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg come through. Some caramel and cocoa. Malts are there.
The flavors follow the nose. More spice leading the way. The spices start off a little aggressive and rough around the edges, but quickly become balanced. More cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. More caramel and cocoa. Some chocolate. The orange peel definitely comes through along with a little orange zest. Some toast. Subtle bitterness to go with a subtle sweetness. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, slick, smooth and slightly sharp.
This is a solid brew. It's definitely fitting for the holiday season. Making this a dark lager was a nice idea with all of the "Christmas Ales" on the market this time of year. It has everything that you'd expect from a beer brewed with ginger, cinnamon and orange peel, more or less. Not bad at all.
