Not quite the apoapsis of the IPA celestial family, Martian Sunrise, is a Mosaic single hop carrier wave broadcast straight to the heart of a malty gravity well of oats, caramel, and roasted crystal rye. The result is a beautifully dissonant harmony delivering the payload on time and in budget. Familiar terms on an alien landscape, like a home away from home away from home.

12oz bottle dated 4/25/17 poured into a pint glass
A: Hazy red/brown with a lingering 1+ finger head
S: Caramel, toasted malts, pine and grapefruit
T: Matches the nose - a nice mix of malts and hops
M: Medium-bodied, crisp, a touch sweet
O: To me this embodies what a red IPA should taste like. Nice hops balanced by solid malt

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 12 oz bottle on July 4, 2017. Look is murky amber red with a thin head and little lacing. Smell is grassy with wet hay notes and some caramel malt. Taste is toasted malt and a hint of rye. Feel is medium in body with a smooth finish.

Pours a mostly clear reddish coppery color with off-white head. Pine, citrus, bread, hay, grass, and some caramel on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with a nice combo of pine, bread, and citrus fruit.

12oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker brown-purple body, one finger offwhite head, thick with good retention and rings of lacing. Smell is peppery sort of grapefruit and caramel combination, toasted grain, slight umami/seaweed aroma. Flavour is mostly caramel and toasted bread, with some grapefruit and a slight dried seaweed/peppery finish. It's weird, but it's good and definitely not off-putting. It's certainly different though than the likes of Nugget Nectar. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, rindy bitterness on the finish.

Pours a very deep amber with an off white head. Nose is resiny sticky hops, some pine and grapefruit along with a big bready caramel malt. Flavor is bitter--big pine and grapefruit rind hop, followed by a toasty caramel malt and then a long lingering dry hop. Well crafted red IPA, that delivers the malt but still hopped enough to make it clear it is an IPA.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter. Dark red/brown with a 2 finger khaki head. Fades into a thin ring and leaves behind thick webs of lacing. Hops are upfront and fruity with tropical and floral notes. I do pick up some earthiness along with the sweetness of malt. Less of a tropical fruit bomb than I thought. There is more light fruit that transitions into a very bitter grapefruit and pine. I pick up some herbal, floral, and earthiness, along with minimal sweetness from malts. Medium bodied with good carbonation for the style. It has an oily and slickness, with a bitterness that lingers. An interesting Red IPA that was enjoyable.
