My wife and I visited Smith Rock Brewing in Redmond while on a sightseeing/family reconnection trip earlier this month (June, 2014). We located it thru Beer Advocate and it was a real treat. The owners, Kevin and Danielle Stewart(Stuart?), run what they consider to be the smallest commercial brewing operation in Oregon. And it could well be. They offered when we visited a porter and a pale ale that they produced, but carried a number of other craft breweries' offerings. We had a chance to chat with the Stewarts and they explained how they opened up, first intending to be just a brewery, but then found the regulatory climate better if they served food. Their two beers were quite palatable, and both of us were impressed with the brews. They explained that they brew single batches of whatever and serve them until they run out, then they will brew something else to replace it. I suppose what impressed us most with Smith Rock Brewing was the friendly demeanor of the owners who were very open and encouraged questions about their operation as we sat and enjoyed their brews. This small establishment is well worth a visit.
