Growler fill picked up today at Brewer's Haven in Nampa.. Paid a super reasonable $12... Shared tonight at an Abyss Vertical... Seemed to have gone over well.
Dark tan small-bubble head with decent retention... no lacing.. the brew is the expected black.
Good residual sweetness helps punch up the nose on this one... smells a bit like what I would describe as a "Natural Tootsie Roll"... quite a hefty hoppiness for a Imperial Stout..
Flavor has a nice balanced char to round out the malty sweetness.. full and very balanced... roasty/chocolate/possibly something that I associate with anise.. The taste is a surprisingly big winner.
Body is medium with a sorta slick feel to it.
I am honestly pretty amazed at this one. It is NOT a "Brandy barreled with unicorn tears" RIS... instead this is a pretty damn well done RIS that needs few tweeks.
Well Done.
