The colour is dark amber; the head is two fingers high, off white and quite compact.
The smell is sweet with notes of toffee, brown sugar, some red wine, and some somewhat roasted malt. There are fine and delicate note from a variety of hops.
The carbonation is medium strong giving it a nice mouth feel.
The taste is complex and surprisingly mild with a touch of alcohol. There are also notes of prunes, candy sugar, coffee and a growing bitterness. The aftertaste is dominated by an almost too multifaceted and long bitterness that fills the whole mouth. There is also a burned note of pumpernickels.
I was clearly disappointed when I drank this beer. I think that the six different malts and six different hops are a little too much, all the fine flavours drowned in each other.
