32oz growler from the brewery, poured into a Conquest snifter.
A: Pours a light cola brown body that shows itself thoroughly ruby in the light. Forms an inch of barely-off-white head that sticks around for a while, eventually dissipating to occasional patches on the beer. It maintains a decent ring throughout, leaving some splotchy yet elegant lacing along the way.
S: Pretty simple on the nose, with just a little bready malt (like a dry rasin bread), some dark fruit, and sweetness.
T: Again, not complex, but decent and hits the important stylistic notes. Bready malt, plenty of dark fruit, and just the slightest hint of tobacco on the finish. While fairly simple, it does avoid the twin dangers for this style, as it is neither too sweet nor too "Americanized" (i.e., hopped to hell and back). On the whole, a nice, sweet, fruity beer.
M: Medium-bodied, with moderate but unobtrusive carbonation. Not as heavy as I'd like for a "Wee Heavy," but not too "wee," either.
O: A decent example of the Scotch Ale style, and it's nice to have a hometown offering for one of my favorite beer styles. I'd like to see them rebrew it with a heftier malt profile.
