There's a tapping sound at the window. Better check it out. This one is built on a sturdy base of Vienna malt and rounded out with a touch of Munich and Melanoidin then robed in the inky blood-tinged darkness of Carafa Special III. It soars through the night on silent wings of Hallertau and a classic German lager strain. Intense notes of rich, toasty malt, dark fruit, and toffee with hints of chocolate and caramel and an endless thirst that drives it out into the darkness to feed. The night is young. Invite it in.

Poured from can purchased fresh from brewery.

L: copper/red-brown hue
S: Sweet, malty smell -- biscuity aroma. Very appealing.
T: Nose carries through. Sweet, biscuit-like flavor. A tiny bit of bitterness on the finish more like burnt sugar than hoppy bitterness but pleasant.
F: Satisfying full feel without being thick or rich. Beer is light but not thin due to carbonation level. Velvety effervescence.
O: Excellent beer. A new favorite. Will drink many many more times.

Setting the bar high with this one. Served on tap in a pint glass at Oscar's Alehouse in Eldersburg. The brewery description listed Carafa Special III malts for color enhancement. The beer was gorgeous in the glass, a deep, glowing ruby brown. Smaller head than I expected (could have been the pour) with some visible carbonation. Faint toasted malt in the nose, but a rich biscuity flavor on the tongue with a subtle residual bitterness that perfectly balanced what was pleasantly not too sweet. The thing that pushed it over the top for me was the lighter to medium body. It wasn't "rich and thick" like other Viennas. And definitely not slick or sweet. It was near perfect in that regard. And oh so drinkable. I stopped at one. But could have done a few more. Definitely one of my new favorites.
