On-tap at the source in a pint glass. On to the beer:
This bitter is amber brown colored and leaves a few rings of lace around the glass. The aroma consists of dry biscuit malt, some English hops, tea, and dried caramel. I was expecting a subtle adventure of taste, so I was shocked to come across such a big flavor given the alcohol. The first thing is hit is fresh brewed tea, quickly fading into dry crackery malt, then vague citrus and grass. There's a gentle raw bitterness which continues into the aftertaste. It's a light bodied beer, though it seems bigger because of the flavor. Also helping its cause is the gentle crisp carbonation.
Valiant Brewing is trying to establish their brewery as the strong ale specialists. After drinking this sub 4% ABV bitter, I wonder if it wouldn't hurt for them to brew up some other low alcohol beers, because this is a winner.

Solid beer, perfect for a session or two. Has a lot of the qualities of a good stout mixed with a high bitterness. It would be interesting to try this one on nitro!
Pours with a nice head, aroma is roasty and toasty all in one. Toffee and caramel meld with a high bitterness. Very drinkable. Robust.

On tap at Valiant Brewing Company in Orange, CA.
Pours a hazy dark orange-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and herbal hops. Taste is much the same with a herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but nothing too exciting.
