Serving: On tap at Short's in Iowa City
Served: 2 Jan 2015
Appearance: Pours a deep brownish red (more brown than red) with a half-finger head that takes forever to dissipate. Minimal to no lacing.
Smell: Doesn't smell like much- some muted malt sweetness and a farmy graininess. A pinch of herbal and floral hops.
Taste: A really great amber ale. Really nice balanced notes from the malts- which are admittedly a bit grainer than I was expecting- and a nice soft assertion from herbal hops providing just a pinch of hoppy spice. The beer finishes medium-dry but is not super bitter.
Feel: Lively carbonation and a medium-light body.
Overall: The surprise brew of the bunch I got at Shorts, and definitely one of the best. A great amber ale that is serviceable to those new to craft, but intriguing enough to those more experienced. Would definitely recommend.
