new one from these guys, i was there for the tapping. a nice rich dunkel wheat, looking like a thick brown ale in the glass, and holding a better head than most of the other beers i have had from them. definitely fuller bodied than other examples of the style, but it works really well in this context, making the banana notes in the yeast linger long, and the flavor of the wheat malt really set in, sweet and desserty in the middle, but drying out in the end. i like the yeast in this, its flavorful but not dominant, and the beer is in excellent balance. the reason the old world imports in this style is so good, i always though, was because of how delicate they are. this beer isnt delicate at all, its robust and assertive, but it still tastes very good. i could drink a few of these, but more than that gets filling, and it doesnt warm up all that well. one of the better beers i have had here, although it still seems a little sloppy around the edges. cool to see them evolving with different styles though, hopefully that will keep up.
