Another happy hour sample, I consumed this as my second beer during my last visit, after McGarvey's. On to the beer:

Served with a lemon wedge, I took it off the rim of my glass. But by then, the little head that was there was dead. Very cloudy blonde (not surprisingly). There's major clove in this beer, and I found it to be cloying. Just as the wheat malt and phenols wanted to shine, the clove covered it all up. Too much spice just doesn't work. I really didn't want to finish the pint, but I did it and lived to tell about it.

A good offering from Oggi's. This one poured with your traditional hazy-gold Hefe color with little to no head and left no lace down the glass at all. The smell was slightly of bananna but there was more of a lemony scent dominating over everything. The taste was good with a good dose of clove and bananna but a very tart citrus aftertaste that reminded me a bit of Paulaner. A very agreeable beer.

On tap at Carmel Valley. Cloudy orange. Taste of pineapple juice with good sourness, controlled sourness, malting there even fructose, and wheat. Medium mouthfeel. I guess competing with smoothies and fruit juice, interesting novelty. Average as far as beer goes.

On tap at Oggi's Corona, CA location. This was a strange beer. Definitely not what I expected from a hefe. The appearance was bright cloudy gold with a little orange. It contained an overwhelming amount of banana. I mean, ONLY banana. Very interesting, and the banana flavor is good, but it may get tiring. It did have a great light mouthfeel to it.

A - Nice medium yellow, unfiltered, with a bone white head...served with lemon.

S - Fairly faint aroma but it was very citrusy with lemon, orange, and a little grapefruit.

T - Nice balance of fruit, spices, and malts used in this one. The crystal malt was present at the beginning and the citrus notes took over at the finish. Spices of clove and faint pepper were present throughout the entire brew.

M/D - Pretty good amount of carbonation and an average body for a hefeweizen. Was very smooth on the palate and finished very clean.

On tap at Oggi's Carmel Mountain.

A: Hazy yellow with a small creamy cap.

S: Banana and apple with spicy clove. Moderate grainy malt quality with just a little bubblegum. Moderately sweet.

T: Pronounced clove with an accompanying light spiciness. Banana blends with wheat and bread. Bubblegum is an afterthought and bitterness is low.

M: Lower medium in body with high carbonation.

Overall: A solid American-made Hefeweizen. My only complaint is that it's a bit heavy on the clove.

Pours a cloudy orange with a golden glow. The aroma is a bit spicy with a light banana smell. As a whole this beer does not give much of a smell. The taste is very reminiscent of a Belgian wit beer. Sour with lots of citrus notes and a sandy malt flavor. There are no banana phenols in the flavor so it mostly displays the wheaty malt flavor and a light touch of hop bitterness.

On tap at Oggis in Orange.

Well, my pint showed up with a lemon which i quickly pitched to the side. The color was a hazy lemony yellow and was very assuming. When I went to smell the aromas, I was very impressed with the assumed banana and clove. They were very prominent and defined... I couldnt wait to taste (damn it has a strong aroma that belies its appearance. Maybe that's whay when I tasted it, I wasnt as impressed. Not that it was bad, because it wasnt, it was good but it didnt wow me like the aroma did. There was a good fruity taste to it and I'll drink this as my session brew when at Oggi's. It had a light mouthfeel and as i mentioned earlier, it was unassuming.

Light gold color, hazy. Aroma is malty and fruity. A medium bodied hefe with a surprising amount of flavor. Malts are fruity. Hops are a touch grapefruity. Nice banana and clove action going on here. Well balanced, very flavorful. Very smooth. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Brewed & sampled on tap at Oggi's Scottsdale, AZ
This beer is a hazy straw gold color, it is topped by a wispy pale head that is barely there. There is a solid aromatic note of clove in the aroma, in fact it is the dominant note found here. The taste is sharp up front and it finishes with a great banana-like notes. The Banana is actually quite pronounced, especially considering I did not notice it in the nose. There is a light spicy hop not up front that provides some balance to this beer. This is very light bodied, even for a Weizen; it is missing a bit of the texture, that certain wheat flavor and the tartness that I like in a good Hefe Weizen. Overall it is not too bad, it just could be so much better.

Sweet spot, is that like a nice dalmatian? The pour is a off yellow color that is cloudy with a thick, soft white head. Nice stating power through the entire tasting but limited lace.

The nose was good with a sweet and rich malty presence. Notable wheat and a good balance with hefe esters. A big bubblegum and banana presence with a touch of solvent alcohol as well. Would have liked more spice but still good.

The taste is toned down from the nose. The malt flavor is more pronounced with some husky and grainy flavors. Some wheat with a silk taste but not overly oily. The bananas and bubblegum come out again with some off yeasty flavors. There is a chalky finish and a touch of earthy hops towards the end.

The body is has a mid feel. Carbonation is limited but does support the style. There is a off texture flavor in the finish that leaves that chalky finish. Overall good but is missing a few dots.
