Good flavor, but low on hoppy aroma. A bit thin, but nice bitterness and a moderately lasting head. It sure went well with Pizza. I would like to try this unfiltered to give it a better feel.

This beer is really similar to that one made in San Clemente by Left Coast. Color of somewhere between a burnt orange and light amber, 1/3" white head. Aroma was one of the more lacking areas, lacks dry hopping, or lacks aroma hops or both.

Taste is more of a PacNW crystal malt caramel heavier kind of body, leaned malty, not quite English IPA because there are definite west coast bittering hops at use here probably (Simcoe/Cascade/Chinook/Centennial). Goes big on the caramel malt and hop bitterness, slight grapefruit note, not a ton of flavor to the hop component of this beer, just as much emphasis on those sticky bitter malt body.

Medium carbonation and yes, this beer actually does pair better with pizza than it does on its own.

March 31st, 2015 - Though the Torrey Pines IPA is maybe a little thinner than it should be, it's a solid IPA, and a timely and convenient complement to all the beer in front of me. With a rustier smell, and a sort of rusty-orange appearance, the nose offers a nice bitterness, some passion fruit and a blush of pomegranate. The flavor has a good hoppiness to it, giving a more sugary edge than Oggi's Pale Ale. It is, perhaps, a little generic, but at the same time I don't want my "pizza beer" to be doing anything fancy during my meal.

Torrey Pines IPA is one Oggi's staples, not a classic West Coast IPA, but a good balance of malt and sweetness. Minimal floral/piney aroma, well balanced on the malt/hop taste, and not overpoweringly bitter on the finish.

I have been to several of the Oggies locations and one issue is the consistency of the beers. They know how to brew but the closure of the HB location suggests they were not quite dialed in. Sub par pizza with standard bar food but they are continue to branch out and make a wide range of beers. Try to find any of their remaining locations and cheers.

On tap at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a medium hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a better taste than smell.

On-tap at the OC Greek Fest,

A: Pours a light amber with a medium white head, has some thick lacing, nice looking beer.

S: Pine oil and white grapefruit, with some other assorted citrus, standard nose.

T: Light crackery malt, with a strong fresh hop character. Gets a little dirty at the end which takes away from it, but still pretty solid.

M: Medium-bodied, crisp, soft carbonation, long aftertaste.

O: An enjoyable pour, there's a lot worse brewpub IPAs out there.

Poured from a draft into a pint glass at Oggi’s in Santee, Calif. About 1 ½ fingers of head when I got it. Color was honey pale. Bubbly white lacing on the sides that lasted almost the entire pour. Nice amount of uneven film on the sides that lasted throughout the pour.

Smelled sweet floral notes. Pretty typical of an IPA. Got some lemon citrus notes, too.

Tasted pretty similar to the nose. Got citrus hops, mainly lemon. Lots of caramel malts. Not especially balanced.

Medium body. Watery texture. Average carbonation. Smooth finish.

Not a bad beer, not a great beer. Somewhere in the middle. Pretty typical. I’d probably try it again.

Served on-tap at Oggi's Tustin

A: Thin, watery head with a longer retention than I would have expected. Walnut color, no cloudiness but well carbonateddespite the disappointing head.

S: Hoppy, but didn't pick up many other tones. Too subtle for my amateur's nose.

T: Full bodied, but not very balanced. Still managed to be tasty despite the inconsistency.

M: Middling, it was too watery.

O: Meh. Better than the other beers I've had at Oggi's, but that doesn't mean much.

On tap at Oggi's Mission Valley.

A: Dark gold with a pillowy finger of white froth. Lots of lacing.

S: Bright and vibrant orange and grapefruit notes with a dash of cracker. The citrus is a blend of rind and sweet flesh, though the nose is not sweet, so to say. There are restrained floral notes.

T: Bitter grapefruit and orange with a firm pine resin presence. The bitterness is dry and reminiscent of fruit rind more than flesh. Malt really takes a back seat to the hops here. Bitterness is at an upper moderate level and there's just a touch of booze. There's a dash of fleeting sweetness on the late midpalate but it's a distant memory in the blink of an eye. Bitterness increases in the dry finish.

M: Lower medium body with upper moderate carbonation. The mouthfeel is dry, crisp, and sticky.

Overall: This was really enjoyable. It's a refreshing and highly drinkable light bodied San Diego style IPA. This is brewed in house here, so perhaps the beer is fresher and the quality is better at this location.

On-tap at Oggi's Tustin

A: The pour is a golden orange/amber color with a finger of white head and some mild lacing.

S: Fairly typical and middle of the road IPA aroma to this beer. Heavy on the pine notes with a big lemon smell and some decent citrus peel. Bready malts and mild toffee give this some sweetness.

T: A big time lemon flavor that is almost like a lemon scented cleaner. Decently bitter with a bit of an herbal hop flavor and some grassiness. A moderate malt character with a mild sweetness.

M: Medium in body with a medium carbonation.

O: Not bad, but a really middle of the road IPA. Nothing I'd care to have again.

On tap at Oggie's. Poured into a 20oz mug.

Torrey Pines IPA arrives with a finger and a half of dense white foam on top. Great lacing. The beer is a dark amber color with a slight haziness. The nose is sugar cookie malt and floral hops. Taste is bitter hops balanced by the aforementioned sugar cookie malt, emphasis on the hops. Citrus flavors predominate, with tangerine and mango being showcased. The finish is dry with a rather enjoyable lingering bitterness. The beer is medium bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation. Overall a pretty solid IPA. I wasn't expecting much from this brew and ended up being pleasantly surprised with it's hop profile and refreshing nature. I'll have this one again.

Headed over to Oggi's in Mission Valley (as I do after every Chargers game) to have a few beers and wait for my wife to come pick me up. A second loss to Oakland in one season left me out of sorts and requiring beer asap. I was fortunate enough to hit this place while they had their IPA on cask. Bought a pitcher for $10.99 and poured it into a pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy apricot hue with a fluffy tan head that sticks around for the entire pint leaving a thick coat of lace in my glass from start to finish.

S: Light floral hop that is piney and herbal/medicinal, fermented fruit, bready grains and malt.

T: Prevalent bitter hop - earthy, grassy and floral with a nice grapefruit bight, salty baked bread and tropical fruit. Really well balanced IPA - perfect amount of bitter hop and sweet malt with other interesting flavors in the mix. I would have given this a 4 or 4.5, but there was a slight metallic aftertaste (their cask system might need to be cleaned).

M: Medium-bodied, creamy and smooth like a cask ale should be, surprisingly dry finish and a lingering resinous bitterness in the mouth from the hop.

D: Easy drinker - drank the whole pitcher no problem.

Looks like a standard ipa, amber hue, some orange and brown color, average head, retention. Aroma was what most people say 'floral' is.

Taste, another remarkably pedestrianly good beer. Grassy hop grit feel. Good hop bitterness, aspects of pine tips or some other plant life in it besides the hops. A slight degree of brown ale sweetness to it.

Wasn't the biggest fan of the beer overall, but its a solid standup beer that passes a general drinkability test. The worst part was listening to some shit bitch about the beer unrealistically. A polite yet stronghanded reminder that he wasn't behind his keyboard anymore shut him up.

A - Typical IPA...medium brown/dark orange with a thick white head and great lacing.

S - Reeks of hops, but also has very subtle fruit/spice notes in the background. Hardly any malt aroma present, but smelled extremely fresh.

T - Similar to the aroma, this beer was hops all the way through. BUT, there were also light fruit notes in the middle...I'm assuming from the hop combination used. Almost flirts with the fine line between IPA and DIPA when it comes to flavor.

M/D - Lots of carbonation and has a medium body. "Chewy" hop feel on the plate with all the bitterness, but overall very drinkable. Too bad this isn't available anywhere else outside of Oggi's Pizza

A: way too light to be an ipa. Looks like a lager.

S: almost nothing. Less hop presence than the pale ale. Terrible.

T: grassy or wheaty and way too bitter. Not hop bitter--bitter face tape bitter. Gross.

M: exceedingly dry with minimal carbonation.

D: I would not have another.

Reviewed 12/28/2007 (Sampler @ Oggi's Peoria, AZ):

Pours a light golden colored body, clear looking, with a small white color head. Has a somewhat hoppy aroma, but almost nothing. A real hoppy piney taste, sour. Too much. Better, less harsh as it warms up.

All around good IPA, Very refreshing. Light orange in color fairly clear, smells of fresh grass/floralness. Tastes good, grapfruity slightly "tingy", crisp well balanced IPA. refreshing! fairly wet, then feels dryer on the finish. I enjoyed it. I ordered the santa fe wrap with it. And it really brought out the alchohol presence (6.9 I believe) would have paired much better with the hot wings.

Had this at Oggi's in Escondido, golden/copper color with very little head. Citrus/pine hits in the begining, with a very citrus, lemon aftertaste. Mouthfeel was alright, but maybe a bit to soft, or oily. Not a bad IPA, but was glad to open a Hop 15 later that evening!

On tap at Oggis Scottsdale
Poured a light golden color with a small white head. Nose is citrus and pine and sordove perfumey. Taste is astringent with a big whop of perfume that is almost obnoxious. I did manage to find some citrus and piney notes in there on the mouthfeel. Reminded me of Rock Bottom Rain City IPA. With allof the good IPAs around it would be very hard to fo me to drink this again.

Pours clear gold with a medium white head. Crisp pine hop aroma with some lemon and oranges. Decent west coast IPA; resin and citrus blend well, but are very light in mouthfeel. Does not end as well as it starts. Lots of metal. Much better off the tap than the bottle.

Sample at the Santa Clarita location. Pours a clear golden-amber color with a medium and foamy white head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and grapefruit. Medium-bodied and moderately hoppy with touches of malt and flowers. The finish is dry and mildly bitter with a short hops aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

On tap at Quotations the other night. Had this after the Hop Juice, which I thought might be a mistake. However, this beer more then held its own.

The beer pours a peachy orange color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is quite intriguing on this beer, consisting of underlying citrus, a touch of pine and fruit cup. The flavors replicate the nose, and I love how light on the palate this beer seems. It's not the least bit heavy or tiring to drink, and like the hop juice, I'm amazed by the array of flavors I get in this beer. There's also a mandarin orange component, that is just beautiful with the fruit cup flavor. Very impressive. Drinkability is very good on this beer, with the alcohol very well disguised.

Extremely impressive. This beer, along with the hop juice, show the skills of a particularly capable/gifted brewer.

Served bright orange with a collar of lace - acceptable tap IPA appearance, with some pretty nice lacing.

Strong, citric bouquet that really showcases the hops. Nicely done.

Unbalanced, bitter and resinous with only a hint of sweetness. Lots of grapefruit, a touch of boozy black pepper. What's good for the goose may not be for the gander, but this goose really likes hops.

Acceptable carbonation and heft. This is a pretty good IPA, but the bitterness does get to be a bit much without the malt counterpart. I would get this beer again.

Pours a bright orange. Big white foam head. Smells like grapefruit. Taste is big with grapefruit, not much hop bitterness, maybe a bit of pine. Really more like a barleywine than anything else.

I enjoyed it more than most, apparently, though the price is a bit on the high side for what I got. Decent mouthfeel.

thanks to intriken for a growler of this brew!

A - Hazy golden amber color with a white head.
S - piney citric hops meld over a caramel taste.
T - initial mix of citric and piney hops fades over to a piney catty hop note.
M - medium bodied, nicely carbonated, sharp catty after effect.
D - decent enough brew, bit sharper catty hop effect in the end of the glass.
