Pours black with hints of brown on the edges. Poured to top of the glass so not much head, yet left plenty of lacing.
Smells of coffee and roasted malt. A fruity hop undertone is in there too.
Tastes of coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of the hops. A sweet roasted malt aftertaste finishes the taste. At least the hops are in there somewhere.
Texture is lighter than a stout, but still has some body. Fine carbonation make for a pretty easy drink.
Overall, this was a pretty light stout, err... I mean a pretty hoppy stout. WTF. This whole black IPA thing is ridiculous. I liked the beer overall, but I was confused the whole way.
DOA

On tap at Oggi's Mission Valley.
A: Red kissed dark brown with a finger of froth. Retention is good and there is much lacing.
S: Moderately roasted malt blends with a little chocolate and a small amount of nuttiness. Hops are aromatic, redolent of pine resin, earth, and grapefruit.
T: Toasted bread with a dash of chocolate and roast. Hops impart pine and grapefruit. The beer is moderately bitter and dry. As the beer continues to warm I begin to taste orange flesh.
M: Medium body with upper moderate carbonation.
Overall: A good Black IPA.
