Draft at Taphouse. Clear golden, small creamy head, rings of lacing. Light aroma, hops, a bit of malts. Taste is bracing and sweet. Gentle citrus. A bit more abrupt than the regular version.

my first beer from these guys, i have never even had the regular j-box, despite it being all over the place here now, but i could not pass up the opportunity to try the fresh hop edition! its gorgeous stuff, brilliantly fresh and full of flavor, one of the few clear wet hop beers around this year too it seems, golden and shining and immaculate in the glass with a tall white head from the tap, a very nice looking pint! not sure the hops in this one, but it doesnt seem radical or unique to me, some fresh pine essence, an almost gin botanical thing, and some citrus that comes across as just a little bit sweet with the malt backing thats here, light crystal but somewhat more prominent and hearty than just pale barley. there is bitterness here, but there is also great balance. the ferment is impressively tidy, the linger from the hops is oily and orange forward to me, a little weedy dankness there as well, obviously fresh hopped, but nothing forced or overdone, no trying too hard, just a really well executed beer, better for its simplicity than anything else, and one that has me itching to try the original now. in many ways this drinks like a pale ale, really sessionable and pleasant. nicely done overall!
