A surprisingly light hued brew for a Dubbel. Straight up caramel color. White head that is nice but typical and not something out of the norm. Lightly cloudy with minimal lacing. Nose is a big wow. Just not what I expected. Coffee is there but not dominant. There is a bright and lively Belgian yeast fruitiness, candi sugar gives a caramel/toffee roastiness. An interesting melange of spices. Cardamom and cinnamon. Dark fruits have a light presence. Mild alcohol but nothing that sticks out. Mild and earthly hops. Taste follows suit. This is a different take on the coffee beers. It is an Belgian ale with spices and among those is the coffee. It hits the tongue with a masterful bend of flavors. Sweet and bready with mild figs. coffee flows after with a spiced candi sugar cutting through that opens up light bread and grain notes. Mild hop present an earthy finish. Feel is crisp and lighter that you would expect for a Dubbel. Smooth and easy drinking and quite sessionable for a brew that has this amount of alcohol and spicing. Quenching and dry. I'm liking this quite a bit.
