a collaboration with thornbridge from what i understand. on tap at back country in boulder, who continues to get these crazy rare kegs. apparently some kind of apple wild ale, although i have to confess, i didnt know it was made with apples until now. i didnt taste a ton of apples in there while i was drinking it, although there is definitely a crisp autumnal fruitiness going on. i would have pegged it more as a finger lakes region white wine, but apples make sense too. its hazy straw colored, real pale, looks like a berliner, and has a similar sort of nose. a little brett though too it seems with the quick lacto, or maybe even some saison strain, either way, its more eventful than the sour profile in most berliners. the fruit isnt necessarily apple to me, crunchy tart maybe, but not the rest of the way. perhaps a lot of the sugars that define the apple flavor have been fermented out. i know apples and apple juice are often used to start lacto fermentation in berliner style sours, so that theory has some credence. i like the funk aspect too, and the wheat malt (at least i believe it to be wheat), all fluffy and cereal flavored. its dry for a fruit beer, and very well carbonated. these wild beer guys have impressed me a lot, and while this isnt my favorite from them, its awfully unique. nothing like a cider, and rather well hopped on the back end. id like to try it again knowing that its made with apples now.

Pours a slightly hazy gold, white foamy head forms and retains.
Nose is light and airy, decent amount of funk/sour but not much more.
This is a very bright sour. Very much on the lemony side. Very refreshing.
Not overly complex but definitely a nice level of pucker. Would definitely enjoy this again.
