Striking gold in year three, the brewers at The Wild Beer Company weave together an ale that has aged three years in select oak barrels for a smooth, sour and savory session.

The Summer Blend 2016 is bright gold and swirls with delicate creme. The nose is awaken with the same curious twinge of tart grape, cider, and a buttery scent that suggest something of oaked chardonnay. But to taste, the beer's introductions are skim on sweetness as hints of sourdough and light candy charm the tongue.

On the middle palate, the taste trends tart, fruity and spicy; leaving much of its sweet grip behind. Sour green apple, peach, leathery lime and weathered lemons offer a rustic citrus flare with white wine and crabapple looming. A late charge of acidity pierces the tastebuds with grape skins, sour apple and a light peppery burlap twinge.

Crisp, clean and highly refreshing, the high acidity of the ale relaxes slightly and allows for a creamy finish to persist well beyond their lofty, malty-sweet balances. Instead, the high fermentation character leads a charge of sourness and light moss to decorate a lons and promising aftertaste.
