A 500ml bottle; BB Sept 2014. Acquired from York Beer & Wine shop. Described as a traditional IPA brewed with Kent and American hops.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy orange-amber hue with plenty of fine sediment and good carbonation. Produces a vast head of creamy white foam with excellent retention; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Good lacing.
S: Aroma of spicy, fruity hops with hints of grass/hay, mild citrus, white fruits, earthy yeast, caramel malt and faint stewed hops. Not too shabby.
T: Tastes of spicy aromatic hops with a yeasty character and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of white fruits, peel, citrus, grass/hay, faint pine, earthy yeast, caramel malt and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, followed by a crisp, resinous bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of grassy, spicy hops, stewed leaves and earthy yeast.
O: A pretty decent IPA; the yeast perhaps a tad overdeveloped. Looks alright, if cloudy, while the aroma and flavour are quite fruity with a side helping of yeast notes. Body is OK. It certainly qualifies as an IPA, though I reckon the aroma might have faded a little. A solid stab at the style and worth a punt if you come across it.
