Designed by our head of sales, Brandon, for our Brewmaster, Lucas's Wedding, this old ale was a big malty hit. We have brought it back for our 6th Anniversary, and aged it in bourbon barrels. It is a malty sweet beer with hints of booze, leather and tobacco.

CAN: 12 fl oz pull-tab. Canned: 11/02/18. Found as a single at a random beer store in New Orleans, LA. Apparently the brewery itself closed 03/09/19, so I'm guessing this is one of the last cans of this left.
"Bourbon barrel aged old ale brewed with molasses." No mention of which bourbon (barrel) was used or how long this spent in barrels appears on the label. 8.8% ABV. "Contains two-row malts fused with CTZ and Styrian Golding Celelia hops."
Served chilled into a chalice.
HEAD: Very thin - maybe .5cm in height. Has meagre retention, lasting maybe 10 seconds. Leaves no lacing on the sides of my chalice as it recedes.
BODY: Brown. Nontransparent yet semitranslucent. No yeast/lees are visible within.
Looks appropriate for the style and appears to be aptly carbonated, but it isn't a standout appearance in the style.
AROMA: Depleted. Some sweetness is evident, but there's a scintilla of oxidation. Faint marshmallow and molasses are there, but little else is detectable beyond the dominant yet also subdued malt sweetness. No bourbon barrel aromatics are present, nor are any hop or yeast aromatics.
Suggests a possibly oxidized sweet old ale with a reticent flavour profile. Aromatic intensity is rather low for an 8.8% ABV bourbon barrel aged old ale.
TASTE & TEXTURE: A bit coating, a bit leathery, dry, somewhat coarse, certainly unrefreshing...has a wilted sort of texture to it, like a wrinkled old date or raisin. Not entirely pleasant...
Sweet from brown malts. Caramel. Toffee. Molasses. Chestnut. Grape/raisin. I don't get any overt bourbon barrel flavour at all, save for maybe some generic barrel sugar sweetness (this lacks any rich white oak, toasted coconut, vanillin, etc.).
Not very enjoyable or approachable.
OVERALL: A subpar borderline oxidized old ale with no real bourbon character to it at all. I'd rather buy North Cost's Stock Ale...this is pretty underwhelming fare.
High D+ (2.25) / NOT RECOMMENDED
