Distance between friends doesn't matter when two passionate breweries come to the pub armed with serious creativity and a foundation of solid liquid. Darwin Brewing (Bradenton, FL) and Rivertowne Brewing (Pittsburgh, PA) companies are pleased to offer the same recipe brewed as a Lager (DL) and an Ale (RA). Aji Limo Rojo is an incredibly complex Red (Rojo) brewed with eight varieties of malt and sweet-hot Aji Limo peppers from the Amazon. These essentially identical worts were fermented in the north with an Ale yeast and in the south with a Lager yeast. Enjoy each and celebrate the science of brewing and the prosperity of genuine friendship!

Ha ha! Another conquest for The CANQuest (tm)! I LOVE having tone77 as my local, in-person trader! I had sent one of these CANs with him on a previous visit & he CANtacted me to say that he was ready to drink & review it, but it did not exist in the site's database. I gave him the green light for the add, but I get the photo credit. He is coming by later today to pick up my latest load for him.

From the CAN: "Beer Without Borders".

There were a number of forces at work when I Crack!ed this one open. First, it was a brimful craft CAN with nowhere for the tongue to go when pushed in, so I got some mild foaming. SeCANdly, it had some age on it, so I went with a slow, gentle Glug to deCANt it. I followed this with a vigorous in-glass swirl to raise two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, light-tan head with decent retention. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & mahogany highlights. Nose smelled like a throwback malty Red (Rojo) Ale, but with a peppery bite. The FGBS Drinking Team has taken to putting fresh chile peppers into crowlers, having them filled, letting them get a few days of age & drinking them. This beer was evocative of those exbeeriments. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was initially of a malty Red Ale, but then the pepperiness began to kick in. It was subtle at first, but it slowly built up, not reaching crescendo heights, but enough of a burn to let me know that it was there! Phew. Yowza! The heat was CANparatively mild against some of The Burn Brothers' CANcoctions, but it was enough to raise a sheen of sweat on my bald spot, aka the solar panel powering my mighty sex machine. Finish was dry, which is how it is always going to be when adding peppers or spices to beer. An impressive beer from my western PA boyz!

Okay, a chile beer. Poured from a can. Very clear, clean-looking dark amber - reddish highlights. There is not much of a fragrance. A very slight peppery smell is detectable. Not unpleasant.

The taste is okay. Oh so slightly spicy with pepper. After a few seconds, you actually do get a bit of a pepper burn in the back of the throat. But it's very mild. Beyond that, you get malt and not much else.

The feel is a bit disappointing. Slightly on the watery side. Medium carbonation.

Interesting. Drinkable. Not memorable enough for me to want to try it again.

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. I let him know it was not in the BA database, and he told me to add it. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts, mild chili peppers. Taste is chili's up front, much more pronounced than the aroma. Malts are present, moderate heat. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is flavorful without the pepper being overpowering.
