In my increasing old age, I must now make quarterly trips to the Hershey Medical Center & since I do not drive, this means coming through Harrisburg. I try to make the most of the shot day by visiting various places in our state capital, including the infamous Shady McGrady's in Midtown. The owner had some former employees that committed arson & shut them down for a period of time. I CAN usually find something new & interesting for The CANQuest (tm) while there & this is one example.
From the CAN: "India Pale Ale".
Well, if there was any question as to the Style of the previous beer, such was NOT the case here. I beCAN with the requisite Crack! & moved directly into a Glug so that I could assess the situation. An in-glass swirl raised two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention that left behind some nice lacing when it fell. Color was a brilliant Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity. Now, The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus decided to show up! I could have used their help with Devil Anse earlier, but no such luck. Nose was at once both tropical fruity & slightly woody. I got a lot of the usual suspects - mango, papaya, guava & passionfruit but the woodiness was unexpected. I would wager something to do with the malt. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was nothing but a riotous tropical fruit salad! It is a beer like this that makes me thankful for the current trend that blends both PNW & tropical hop flavors. This was too sweet & not bitter enough to be thought of as an AIPA. As I drank through it, I CANtinued to get more and more tropical flavors, including pineapple, to join the ones mentioned on the nose. Finish was semi-sweet & I was beginning to sweat from a hops jones. Grrr.

This pulled me away from cascade hops. Nice frontal hop flavor then circuits n piney. Solid beer.

Pours hazy gold. Foamy, short, white head that lasts a while with good lacing.
Smells pine, citrus, grassy and malt.
Tastes piney and citrus, light Tropical and some herbal taste. Finish is dry with a pine linger. Medium body and fizzy medium carbonation.
