I am kind of in Limbo this evening since I just returned from Trivia Night where I had several beers & I don't feel like drinking much past one more as a nightcap. Much of what I have on deck & in the queue is meant to be part of upcoming brewery horizontals. This seemed like the only single-O in the reefer so it will just have to do.
From the CAN: "When Spring arrives, so do the first Early Glow Strawberries, along with our Strawberry Rhubarb Sour. The Amish Mafia controls these hand-selected berries so getting your hands on our secret seasonal sour can be tricky. Lucky for you, we're connected and you can score all you want in the tasting room."
This actually fits in with a past theme involving Rogue Ales which beCAN with a strawberry-rhubarb ale! I mentioned in my review of that beer that strawberries have become my favorite fruit in my advancing age & that has not ChANged in the past few weeks. I am now looking forward to trying this one.
As usual, it beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, which surprised me by revealing a brimful craft CAN & giving me a small spritz across my fingertips. I followed this with a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. It fizzed briefly to form just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with modest retention, quickly fading to wisps. Color was a gorgeous Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, causing The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus to drop in for a taste. Nose was mildly tart, not really sour, with a hint of strawberries. Hmm. Mouthfeel was kinda thin & watery. Oh well. The taste was less sour than tart, giving me a real puckering sensation in my lips. The taste was faintly of strawberries, but the lemony tartness made me think of strawberry lemonade, especially in the wake of those Floyd's Iced Teas & Lemonades. Nice. Its tart dryness would be a good fit in the Summer on a hot, hazy, humid afternoon. Even now, it was a pleasant finish to the evening. Speaking of the finish, it CANtinued to be tart & dry throughout, but I simply wished that the strawberry had been more prevalent. YMMV.
