This was a pretty good red, and as my friend put it, reds are hit or miss, so I was glad that this one was on the hit side. You definitely get the caramel first and then the hops afterward. Named for a California city, it's more of a West Coast-style beer, but there's plenty of room for that here in Colorado.

On tap at the brewery and described as a West Coast Red, whatever that means. I hate the use of the term West Coast because I always expect that San Diego style and it never happens with beers outside Cali, this is no exception. Color is hazy red. Aroma is hops, citrus, slight pine, just not enough to be West Coast by any stretch of the imagination. Flavor is the same way, hoppy but not hoppy enough. A decent beer if not misleading.
