On November 4th, this year's version of our Winter Warmer was released, a rich Christmas beer spiced with cinnamon, ginger and allspice. In England, there has long been a tradition of serving slightly stronger beer during the winter to warm up the frozen guests. This is a continuation of the tradition of a strong, rich, spicy and strong Christmas beer. The aroma is characterized by roasted malt and the spices used.

Copenhagen 11/12 2020. 33 cl small, chubby bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Poppel's usual label design with a lot of text including long winded descriptions of English Strong Ales and heartwarming quotes from the brewmaster. The annual winter warmer has arrived.
Pours dark but clear brown with a red hue and a small off-white head. Settles as thin, flimsy layer of foam unable to cover the surface. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a strong and sugary odor mingling with a healthy dose of Christmas spices. Crystallized brown sugar, caramel and liqueur. Cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and light hints of vanilla.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, lightly tingling texture. A little sticky.
Flavor is intense with a strong, sugary sweetness followed by a rudimentary sour bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and brimming with Christmas spices. Lingers for a while. Finish is sweet and laden with alcohol.
An overdose of sweetness and Christmas spices - and with a solid ABV to hold the sugar at bay.
