Pitch black with nice tan head, roasted malt aroma, very sweet, anise finish. Good carbonation, creamy. Overall an acceptable stout, I wouldn't call it an imperial stout, too sweet for me.

Ship Bottom Brewery "Barnacle Bottom Stout"
on tap at the brewery on 26 August 2017

Notes: Brown-black in color beneath a dark tan head that displays average head retention and lacing. The aroma is roasty with bittersweet dark chocolate. The flavor follows but brings in a yeasty fruitiness that's like apple and sweet red berries - very nice. It's solidly bitter but not overdone; balanced. It's fruity in the finish, then chocolatey and roasty, followed by a drying bitterness and minor earthiness. Medium-bodied and gently zesty, then smooth and airy as it warms in the mouth. It offers a nice transition from roasty to fruity and then bitter.

Was at the Broad Axe Tavern yesterday and ordered this stout which I had never seen or heard of before. You could smell the coffee overtones and it poured beautifully into a 10 oz snifter. I was impressed for sure as the taste was top notch and you could not tell it was an 8.4% beer as it went down so smoothly. This is a great sipping beer for later in the evening on a cold night. If you like stouts, search this one out as you'll find its one of the better ones around.
