Light coppery color with off white head. Solid lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, grass, and light citrus. Flavor is grass, caramel malt, herbs, & tangerine. Dry finish with some herbal hops aftertaste.

I bought a bottle of Toro Red in a bottle shop. Poured in to a pint glass.
Pours an amber red color, chill have, with a thin whiter head.
Smell is faint,an acerbic grain and dandelion aroma.
Taste is balanced, a sweet bread flavor up front with a some pepper flavors and a bitter finish.
Feel is dry with a bit of pepper heat in the throat.
Overall an OK Red Ale. I'd prefer something without the pepper.

22oz bottle - 'ale brewed with chilies and with chilies added' - oh my, my pale Canadian constitution won't know what hit it!
This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber colour, with two skinny fingers of puffy, foamy, and mildly fizzy tan head, which leaves some natural land bridge lace around the glass as it quickly dissolves.
It smells of grainy and bready pale malt, red chili peppers, some muddled yeastiness, and faint earthy, leafy, and musty hops. The taste is bready and doughy pale and caramel malt, subtle green and red chili pepper spice, still extant yeasty esters, weird dark orchard fruity notes, and some middling leafy, earthy, and floral green hoppiness.
The bubbles are pretty understated in their plainly-rendered frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and sort of smooth, as the spice (as already duly noted) has very little purvey here. It finishes off-dry, the amber malt having much more sway than any lingering spicy character, unfortunately.
Overall, this is one underachieving spiced-up ale, as the purported chilies barely earn their (hopefully) meager paycheck. Other than that, this is not really a bad brew, but I was expecting something to complement my impending spicy buffalo chicken, as opposed to being the salve when I inevitably overdo it with the sauce (take that as you will).

On tap at Toro Bravo, Portland.
Clingy off white over dark amber. 4
Toast and cherry stone. 3.75
Autumn leaf, some sour fruit, cranberry and tight grassy end. 3.75
Medium, round, clingy. 3.75
A food beer; I get it. The malts could play off of a lot of different savoury flavors. But not hugely interesting - a bit thin and sharp, in fact. Breakside does better than this. 3.75

Solid red that's subtle on the chilie taste and heat. Nice malt backbone. Got better a few pulls in.

Very clear, honey-colored body; thick, foamy head. Very faint aroma; grains and spice detectable. Mild, white bread malt character; slowly building, gentle chili burn.Medium body; smooth; coarse on the palate; balanced sweet/dry finish.
A humdrum red/chili beer that really doesn't live up to the idea. It looks nice, but smell is barely there and the taste, despite some oily, peppery flavors, really doesn't deliver anything memorable. There is some lingering effects of low-key chili heat after each sip, but nothing that really delivers the goods.
