22 ounce bomber.
Pours a very slightly hazy copper amber with a finger and and half of tawny head.
Malty on the nose with toffee, chocolate, vanilla, a bit nutty and increasingly as warmed a boozy coffee note - earthy hops.
Tastes of sweet malt - caramel, vanilla, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate, hints of raisin and coffee as if bourbon soaked espresso beans. There is character of the barrel and an earthy hop note.
Medium full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation - bourbon booziness mingles with the malt sweetness nicely. A delicious sipper.

 

22oz bottle into a snifter.

Pours clear coppery amber, with a nose of sweet bourbon and coffee, nutty and sweet. Notes of caramel and toffee combine with oak and sweet spirit. Malty Amber ale and nutty notes. Medium body, smooth creamy and sweet.

Overall a fun Vienna that takes on a nice coffee and bourbon essence.

this is extremely intelligent and good, another awesome beer from breakside, i cant get enough from them right now, they make so many beers and all of them are awesome! this is a strong vienna type lager as a base, but its spiked with a whole bunch of coffee, and its killer, one of the best coffee beers i have had all year! im surprised the barrel time doesnt diminish or stale up or oxidize the coffee, but somehow the coffee seems super fresh in this shiny bronze colored brew. its nutty like crazy, almost like hazelnut is in the coffee, awesome with the lighter roasted character, some bread crust maltiness, and the vanilla from the heaven hill bourbon barrels. a little barrel char in here is appreciable with the coffee, dry cocoa too in there, faint almond and anise too, this is wintery and warming, and i never once miss darker grain in here. rarely is vienna lager appealing to me, but this is almost unrecognizable as such, i certainly can hardly tell its a lager, the ferment is clean but there is enough sugar here to make it not crisp or anything, and the other flavors of coffee and malt and barrel are way more robust than the yeast. the flavor depth is amazing here, the coffee is strong, the malt has toffee and honey notes, but is also quite earthy, and there are chocolate and whiskey layers all through this. a bit sweet and boozy as it warms, but i like that this time of year. really impressive and unique beer, a highlight in the breakside portfolio, which is really saying something, this was memorable and awesome, a highlight of a pretty epic session last night, wow! dont miss this one if you are a coffee beer person!

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a BA Speiglau glass.

Look is a hazy brown amber with an offwhite head.

Aroma is coffee with a vanilla bourbon note.

Taste is sweet caramel with a slight vanilla coffe note.

L: amber color, foamy off white head, nice lacing
S: whiskey, malt, some nuttiness
T: nuts, booze, some vanilla
F: nice mouthfeel
O: wow, this is a damn tasty beer

 

Man if there was one consistent thing at the Bistro 2018 Barrel Aged festival, it was that the coffee beers were all very good. This one was no exception. And it was slightly unique to boot. Pours a vienna malt like amber color that is pretty, albeit with a smallish off white head 1/5". Aroma dropped coffee and caramel in substantial portions. I mean, this smelled great.

Taste, hey malty guy, meet coffee guy. Hopping ultra low, smooth malt waves, but instead of an old ale or English barleywine like alcohol content rounding out the flavor profile, you get a lower abv dose with a bounty of bourbon and coffee flavors that work in unison with the malty and nutty flavors. Just when you're all complimenting it on the complexity, you realize some of the smoothness also comes from the vanilla imparted from the bourbon barrels. Just the lightest sweetness you can pretty much put in a beer. Everything in moderation on this beer, and it works wonderfully. Looks like this is one of those 5% of beers that is going to be in my positive rate deviation. Check it out, originality points and its actually really good.

Poured from tap at The Drake in Victoria, BC. Pours a really nice dark brown with a good amount of tan head. Nose is perfect. Nice balance of nuts, coffee, and chocolate. Very smooth. The taste matches the nose. Nice hazelnut and coffee with some toffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but spot on. Overall, a wonderful beer.

 

This crisp beer looks and feels like a brown ale, which it may as well be. It has a nutty flavor and smell that is laced with a bit of the coffee taste that the brewery advertises, and it is as smooth as one might hope, leaving a faint aftertaste of coffee beans that, admittedly, tastes a little better than the beer itself.

Look: It pours dark amber with reddish hues mixed in. It has a tan head and head retention is moderate.

Smell: There are strong coffee aromas with a low background bread element that includes a bit of chocolate as it warms. There is a bit of dark fruits that is very low.

Taste: It has a strong bready, toasty, coffee, and nutty combination that work well together. There are some strong alcohol, not hot, and bourbon in the background. There is a very low cherry element with some chocolate in support.

Feel: It has a moderate body which is a bit surprising based on the ABV. Carbonation is moderate as the flavors carry through and leave a pleasant, long lasting finish.

Overall, well done from beginning to end with plenty of complex combinations of flavors that work well together but are distinct enough for each to have a flavor part.

This one pours a slightly murky dark brown color, with a small white head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells super nutty and caramelly, with chocolate and roasty coffee, with warm toasted oak and a little bit of bourbon.

This one of the most unique coffee beers I've ever had. The base "imperial vienna" is super nutty- peanut butter and walnuts mainly, with rich dark and creamy chocolate, bright and vibrant coffee, caramel, and a nice oak character rounding it all out. There's not a ton of bourbon, but that subtlety is definitely nice.

This is medium bodied, and very creamy, with a good level of carbonation, and surprisingly high level of drinkability.

I really enjoyed this one- it's always cool to see coffee used well in anything other than a stout.

Appearance is cloudy copper with a generous, persistent, beige head that leaves some nice streaky lacing. Aroma is predominantly coffee, with some chocolate, malt, and vanilla notes. Taste is very similar with less coffee and a hint of bourbon.

 

Ruddy, orange and brown body; thick, sculpted, creamy head. Malty nose with a suggestion of coffee grounds; mild caramel. Rich flavors of mocha and caramel; coffee; vanilla; whiskey; some biting bitterness. Heavy body; some cloying residual sweetness; alcohol heat with a corresponding bit of dryness to offset the heavy sweetness.

Despite some rough edges, the mix and depth of flavors pulls this beer through with flying colors.
