Pours a dark amber-brown, with little head. My general impression is that Old Lord Chubby Cheeks is delightfully complex, but subtle in its presentation. The rye barrel provides gentle spice notes that layer delicately over the sweetness of the base wheatwine. Many of the classic notes are here--vanilla, caramel, malted grains, light oxidation from the ageing--but harmonious and muted. This is a fantastic sipper that doesn't try to grab your attention with every taste (likely attributable somewhat to the low carbonation), and I greatly appreciate that restraint.

Overall a great examples with wheat wine it's too bad this doesn't have more ratings. Been a fan of this beer for a while and ranking on several occasions. Pours deep dark mahogany with minimal head in a chalice. Huge malty notes and deep dark fruits. Great Aroma and gray flavor and develops well as you sip it. A true winner in the great go to for the style

A- 12oz bottle pours a deep brown brew into a chalice with a half finger tan cap that has a foamy texture. That cap recedes to the edges and a medium-small ring leaves wide sheets of thin lace.
S- Massive malts, dark fruits and a strong whiskey barrel. The dark fruits of the ferment are huge with ripe cherry, dark wine grape, plum, fig, raisin and dates which meld in with the sweet caramel, toasted nut, cocoa malts, and the barrel. The whiskey barrel gives hints of wet medium toast wood, vanilla and smooth spicy whiskey.
T- The relative smoothness of the nose is somewhat lost in the flavor as a lot of really bold flavors come together in a whirlwind. The barrel is strong with spicy rye whiskey, vanilla and oak wood notes and takes on the forefront of the beer with the fruits and malts later. The ferment leaves a dates, cherry, raisin, fig and plum dark fruit barrage with caramel, toasty and dark cocoa powdery malts forming the base.
MF- A medium to heavy overall body with a smooth low level of carbonation and silky texture. Somewhat creamy and the brew ends very warm with some oily slickness on the palate.
Need more BA Wheatwines in this world. The bold malty and fruity brew brings a good sweetness which is cut into by the extra booze and intense flavors from the whiskey barrel.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a thin light khaki head that dissipates to heavy patches with light lacing. Aroma of plums, dates, raisins, whiskey and caramel malt; very much like a barleywine. Flavor is pale malt, toffee, plums, raisins, dates, whiskey with a mild woody, whiskey soaked dark fruit finish. Medium to heavy bodied with nice mouth feel. The flavor profile, like the aroma is very much like a barleywine; I would not have know that the this is wheat rather than barley malt. Nevertheless, the flavor is very fine, with rich fresh and dried dark fruit, a good whiskey component and mild flavored, but firm and supportive malt. Not much wheat character, but the malt does seem lighter than the other flavors would lead me to expect. There is only a very slight tartness from the rye component in the barrel. I'm a big fan of both wheatwines and barleywines and this one hits the spot although it is darker and different than most wheatwines I've tried. Nicely done. If I'm lucky enough to find another bottle, I'm going to cellar one, it's a great candidate.

Kind of sweet, and one- or two-dimensional, with not much in the way of barrel character. But still nice, with some caramel and simple dark fruits in a pleasant combination. Also, a tip of the cap for the bottle size and pricing. Both pretty reasonable.
