22 February 2020 - Beer #34
Price: $8.99 at Beaumont Market in Portland, OR
Appearance: 5 - pretty darn black with a massive, fluffy latte colored head. The head is so big it's making me nervous.
Nose: 2 - uh-oh... Something is definitely wrong here. It's a big ol' jumble of flavors, the most dominant of which is the unmistakable stench of infection.
Taste: 2 - there's a metric crapton of flavor in here, just nothing good. Tastes a bit like a Shirley Temple just sourer.
Mouth: 4 - if not for the blatant over-carbonation, the mouthfeel could be fantastic. The bubbles are hurting the edge of my tongue
Overall: 2 - no. Just... no.
Cheers!

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop in Phoenix 9-12-19 for $8.99. No bottling date; consumed 11-26-19.
Beer poured dark brown with a nice off white head that has some hang time.
Nose is nice, some vanilla, maple, and earthiness.
Taste is a nice balance of a fairly large malt base that is lightly roasted with vanilla and maple integrated lightly. Finish is a touch of light bourbon. Overall slightly sweet.
Mouthfeel is disappointing, light bodied with more carbonation than expected. Finishes more like a porter than an imperial stout.
Overall a tasty well crafted beer but i expected more for the money.

Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Oddly, a thick, fine head cap starts to form again after a few minutes of sitting. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, mushrooms, vanilla and light bourbon with some mild oxidation. Flavor is dark toasted malt, light caramel, hints of maple, bourbon and cocoa. More robust maple surfaces in a lingering malty finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Like their last series of barreled stouts, this one tastes a bit more like a robust porter to me. Once again, this seems understated at first, but interesting flavors develop throughout the taste with everything nicely balanced and integrated. The deeper caramel of the base stout is muted here, but the other flavors more than make up for it. There is an interesting earthy note that smelled like mushrooms, but tasted more like faint summer herbs. Nicely done.
